While chatting DO NOT click the Chat button again from this page, as the system may see you as a new user and erase your previous session. This has to do with the variations among systems and browsers, and we cannot control it.

Our live chat system lets you exchange real time messages with other Betty fans. Just sign in and say "Hello!" Then start discussing topics related to the site. Naturally the purpose is to facilitate chat about Betty MacDonald; if you observe abuse please let us know.

To sign in, give yourself a name and Enter. A password is not required; just ignore it.

The chat system will open in a small window that you can reposition as you wish. If you move around the site during your conversation, for example to look up something in the forum, switch back to the chat window; do not restart the Chat.

Although the system will time you out if you are silent for a while, we request that you close the chat and the small window before leaving. This is to reduce system resource consumption (it's like turning out the lights when you leave a room) and to prevent anyone else with access to your computer from sending messages in your name.

Know who you are talking with! Do not type postal, email addresses, telephones or other personal data into any chat window, here or on other sites. They should not be considered truly private even if so labeled. In our case, go to the Forum and send a private message.
